In order to meet demand for long range flights Pan American issued a request for a long range flying boat and the successful Boeing bid resulted in the B-314. The 314s called Clippers were among the largest aircraft of their time and built for luxury. Only wealthy patrons could afford to travel on Pan Am's big Clippers and only the best crews were chosen to fly them. Pan Am operated the 314s for only three years the aircraft being pressed into necessary military service upon America's entrance into World War II in 1942. Because of the skill and experience displayed by the original crews Pan Am pilots and flight crews continued to man the Clippers and the big planes were used in both resupply efforts and as executive transports for both Winston Churchill and President Roosevelt. The aircraft is shown here in its original Pan Am colors and the quality craftsmanship and finish of this model ensures that it will be treasured by any enthusiast.
