The B-52 Stratofortress is the longest serving combat aircraft still active in the U.

S. Air Force and one of only five aircraft to have a service length greater than fifty years. Since 1955 the B-52 has served as America's primary strategic bomber and has seen combat in every American conflict since including Vietnam and the Persian Gulf conflicts. The B-52H is the most recent B-52 upgrade and is the variant currently in service. In addition to avionics upgrades the defensive armament was altered to a 20mm Vulcan cannon and the aircraft was adapted to handle Skybolt ballistic missiles.
