D3A Val Model Airplane, part number PCA249, is a discontinued product from the 2007–2011 catalog. It was last listed at $129.99.
Although not a particularly powerful or technologically advanced aircraft the Aichi D3A Val managed to come as a shock to the Americans when it spearheaded the attack on the American Fleet at Pearl Harbor on December 7th 1941. During the year following Pearl Harbor the Val devastated Allied shipping in the Southwest Pacific and Indian oceans. This was to last only until it came across well-defended ships and better allied fighters. By 1943 the Val had had its day and was no longer feared.
This handsome piece is crafted from solid mahogany and is completely hand painted. The finish is a product of fine sanding between primer coats that creates a smooth final gloss making this a showcase piece for years of enjoyment.
