Prominent industrialists and their families would retreat to these cool northern camps to escape from the summer heat of New York City Philadelphia and Boston. A foreman at Flat Rock Camp took the opportunity in the off-season to reproduce and refine the original Adirondack chair which became the basis for a furniture operation crafting rustic wood furniture.From this small beginning the furniture operation outgrew Flat Rock Camp and moved to the Grange Building in Willsboro then to a vacant horse nail factory in Keeseville N.Y. Today Old Adirondack operates a modern 25000-square-foot production facility not far from that factory near its Willsboro roots.
