About Hekman Furniture CompanyEdsko Hekman ventured from the Netherlands to Grand Rapids Mich. in 1893 hoping to find his life's work as a furniture maker. The Panic of 1893 however led him to return to his first profession as a baker and Edsko founded the Hekman Biscuit Company which later became the Keebler Company.

Edsko's enchantment with furniture crafted in the old-world traditions later blossomed in his three sons John Jelle and Henry. They fulfilled their father's dream and opened the doors of the Hekman Furniture Company in 1922. The same doors in the same location are open today.
