The hand-tufting process which is done by Chinese artisans involves the use of a tufting gun. The artisan punches the strands of fiber through the rug's canvas one by one filling out the colored design and creating a rich intricate final product. When tufting is completed the rug is removed from the frame and a backing is glued in place.
