Crafted of Shorea wood (a member of the Teak family) it is incredibly strong and highly resistant to rot insect damage and weather. About Shorea WoodShorea is possibly the best wood choice for outdoor furniture. Related to Burma teak this hardwood grows naturally and plentifully in the Pacific Rim countries making it considerably less expensive than teak. Because shorea contains an abundance of natural oils is dense heavy and hard it is highly resistant to rot bug infestation weather and marring. Shorea is strong and weather-resistant enough to be left untreated. If left untreated it will weather to a warm shade of gray. The weathering process will change the color but the grain will still be smooth. There is no splitting or splintering. You may treat this bench with Teak Oil to slow the weathering process. Each piece crafted from Shorea wood is durable classic and elegant.
