It features a large single drawer with a raised profile side knife rack designed to hold blades measuring up to 10 inches long towel bar and center and side cabinets with adjustable middle shelves. Choose between options with or without a drop leaf that gives you additional work surface and converts the cart into a breakfast bar. This cart is crafted from oil-finished natural yellow birch hardwood which is indigenous to the Northeastern U.S. and ranges in color from blond to a darker walnut shade; the natural variation in color allows this cart to coordinate with your existing decor. The side and back panels feature hardwood veneer. Satin nickel hardware completes the look. The process is easy requiring only common household tools. Furniture will be shipped with all other necessary hardware and easy-to-follow instructions.The top of this cart is made for chopping and cutting and any scratches can be removed with high-grit sandpaper. Recent studies indicate that wood is safer for food preparation than plastic or glass cutting boards; bacteria like salmonella disappear quickly on wood but tend to live and thrive on plastic. You should always clean your wooden cutting board surface with soapy water taking care to remove any food particles and dry the board immediately.To maintain the beautiful finish of your butcher block top always wipe clean with a damp sponge or cloth and use a mild detergent. You should never soak the wood or let water stand for long periods of time as it affects the grain. Rinse well and towel-dry before applying new oil. We recommend Catskill's Original Butcher Block Oil although drug store mineral oil can also be effective in sealing wood. Oil will enhance the color of the wood and offer short-term protection.
