Whistler XTR-690 Radar/Laser Detector
New for 2007 the XTR-690 is Whistler's top-of-the-line high-performance radar detector. The XTR-690 provides all the features that one would expect on a high-performance detector including POP Mode Real Voice™ alerts a blue back-lite text display periscope LED laser sensor battery voltage meter compass and true VG-2 immunity.DetailsPOP and instant-on (pulse) detection gives you the best chance to reduce your speed if necessaryVG-2 detection warning means you will know if law enforcement is using the VG-2 gun to determine if you are using a radar detectorSafety Warning System™ (SWS™) Alert for communities that use this system for fire and rescue360° protection against all types of laserReal voice alerts so that you don't have to look at the detector to know there is a radar signal detected Digital compass headings X K Ka and Super Wideband Ka DetectionIntegrated Real Voice™Blue backlit text displaySignal strength indicatorDigital compass headingsSelectable bandsCity and highway modesAuto and manual mutingVehicle battery saverBattery voltage meterStay alert featureVolume controlSelf testTeach/tutorial mode3-year manufacturer warrantyIncludes power cord and windshield mount Operating BandX-band 10.525 GHz ± 25 MHzK-band 24.150 GHz ± 100 MHzKa-band 34.700 GHz ± 1300 MHzLaser 904nm 33MHz bandwidthRadar Roy's TestsDuring the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January 2007 I got my first peek at the new XTR-690 from Whistler. What impressed me most was Whistler's commitment to raise the bar by developing a new line of detectors that would put them into the same class as the higher end models from Beltronics and Escort.During the March RadarBusters.com and Guys of Lidar testing Mike Batton an engineer from Whistler provided pre-production models that we pitted against the Big Three and we were all impressed with Whistler's overall performance. Then in June we tested an off the shelf unit and the 690 was definitely a better performer than any of Whistler's prior products and certainly better than any Cobra. Is the 690 as good as the higher end Escorts or Bels on sensitivity and performance...no.Kudos to the engineers at Whistler for raising the bar on what I would classify as entry level or mid priced radar detectors. New added features include a battery voltage meter backlit blue LCD screen that is easy to read and the periscope LED alert lights on top of the detector that will certainly grab your attention during an alert.
