On December 17 1903 the Wright Brothers and their historic airplane Flyer I achieved the first powered and controlled flight with a pilot aboard at Kitty Hawk North Carolina with a 12 second flight. Another flight later the same day lasted nearly a minute with more than 800 ft of distance covered.
