The AV-8B Harrier II is the American variant of a joint American-British design and construction project whose primary goal is the development of Vertical Take-Off and Landing fighters. Multiple companies both British and American are involved in the building of the many variants of the Harrier. The first service Harriers took to the sky in 1985 and the current version was introduced in 1993. While the Harrier is not capable of supersonic flight its ability to utilize limited runways and its other performance characteristics make it a valuable asset to any military.
