The B-25 Mitchell is the only U.
S. military aircraft to be named for a specific person in this case General Billy Mitchell a pioneer of military aviation. The B-25 was a prolific World War II medium bomber with nearly 10000 units built suitable for both strategic bombing and tactical support. The B-25 was also the aircraft of choice for the famous Doolittle Raid during which sixteen bombers launched from the carrier USS Hornet bombed targets in Japan and landed in China. The raid was launched as an immediate retaliation to the attack on Pearl Harbor and while it was not particularly damaging to Japan it was a tremendous and much-needed morale boost for the American people.
Any collector or enthusiast will treasure such a finely crafted commemorative piece as this model.
