The Douglas C-47 Skytrain is the iconic transport aircraft for World War II and perhaps the most famous propeller driven transport of all time. The C-47 is a military modification of the Douglas DC-3 and it was used in every theatre of World War II. The Skytrain served in a variety of roles transporting solid cargo to parachute infantry and there were even a few variants modified to serve as gunships much like the modern AC-130. The C-47 held pivotal roles on multiple occasions carrying paratroopers over France on D-Day re-supplying Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge and bringing supplies to Berlin during the early parts of the Berlin Airlift.
