The Navy and the Air Force both used the T-28 Trojan as a basic trainer. It replaced the T-6 Texan in the 1950s and saw action in Vietnam. The T-28 eventually proved to be an effective close air support weapon against enemy ground forces. When production ended in 1957 a total of 1948 of three versions had been built.
