Stainless steel is durable and long-lasting when cared for and maintained properly. Make sure to keep this island clean. Do not allow liquids food particles dirt or other matter to stay in contact with the surface for prolonged periods of time. Keeping the shelf and legs clean will also assist in discouraging bacterial growth. Do not use an abrasive cleaner or chlorine bleach to clean stainless surfaces.
