Each area of the ocean created by intersecting lines of longitude and latitude is one entire piece of Mother of Pearl. The individual countries are equally as impressive as they are individually hand-carved and shaped from semi-precious stones to a surprising accuracy. Over two dozen different types of semi-precious stones are used to create the landforms. The globe sits in a high stand with a full meridian surrounding it. The stand is a heavy alloy metal that is plated with 24K gold. The smooth texture of the shelf gives way to texture at the bottom of the legs.
