This sea plane first flew in July of 1938 and was used by the Navy as a versatile multi-operational aircraft. As a float plane the Kingfisher was launched and recovered via a crane that lifted the aircraft to and from the water. This plane performed many duties such as training scouting bombing rescue and recovery as well as submarine hunting. The first Kingfisher was assigned to the battleship USS Colorado in early 1940.
