While the concept of mid-air refueling has existed since the 1920s it wasn't until the Cold War that the idea really caught on. Nations needed to keep bombers on constant standby so being able to keep aircraft aloft indefinitely (mechanically speaking) was a significant advantage and so an aerial tanker was developed to meet U.
S. needs. Modified off of the C-135 the KC-135 is America's primary mid-air refueler and has been since 1957. Recreated here in fine detail and quality craftsmanship this model is an excellent choice for any aviation enthusiast.
